Multicultural Kitchen Party, Grade Six Graduation Celebration

Multicultural Kitchen Party

Hello West Royalty families! 

Just sending a friendly reminder that  this Wednesday, June 20th from 6 to 8pm is our annual Multicultural Kitchen party. 

There are a lot of  fantastic activities planned including the potluck supper so bring your favorite family dish, send along the recipe and come and join in on the fun!

Grade Six Graduation Celebration

Attention Grade Six parents.  The H&S committee is putting the finishing touches on the West Royalty Class of 2018 Celebration scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 27th from 6:00 to 9:00pm at Brackley Commons.  

If your child is planning to attend  please RSVP no later than June 22nd.

Multicultural Kitchen Party, Funday


Multicultural Kitchen Party

Come and wave your flag at the 2nd annual Multi Cultural Kitchen Party!!  The event is free of charge and is scheduled to take place on June 20th from 6 to 8pm .  All West Royalty Elementary students and families are encouraged to participate and join in on the festivities.

There will be a  Potluck supper so bring your favorite family dish and remember to send along the recipe!

Entertainment will include an Art Show filled with student made pieces. Performances including the West Royalty Elementary Student Choirs, Mi'kmaq dancing and drumming,  student dancing and story telling.

There will also be Cultural Activities such as a Flag 
Waving Station, Cultural Passports and more!

If there are any parents or families who would like to sign up to help with some clean up after the event, please email Femke Hakkers (teacher). The clean up should not take more than half an hour.

For anyone interested in purchasing the Kitchen Party Cookbook, containing all of last years recipes,  the order forms are due by Tuesday June 12th.



Fun Day - June 25th   (Rain date June 26th)

We are in need of volunteers to help out with the hot dog lunch planned for that day.   We are looking to borrow barbecues from anyone willing to provide them.  They will need to be dropped off at the school by 10am on June 25th.

Between the hours of 10am and 2pm we will also need help with food prep, cooking, clean up and extra hands to assist the kids. 

The more volunteers the better so please feel free to invite extended family who might enjoy helping us out.

Green Space, Multicultural Kitchen Party


Green Space
It looks like spring is finally here. now is the time to clean up the front flower beds at the school. The date scheduled is Saturday May 12 at 9:30am, with a rain date of Saturday May 19, 2018. No special equipment is needed, just a little elbow grease and a willingness to get your hands dirty.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Home and School Meeting and Parent Engagement

The Home and School Bi-monthly meeting and Parent Engagement Session is scheduled for this Tuesday,  April 10th.  The meeting will begin at 6:00pm with the Parent Engagement session to follow at 7:00pm.

At this meeting we will be discussing School Wish List items to be purchased including Dynamic
Classroom requests,Teacher Resources, Grade Level Books, and more. All the money
raised from the Cookie Dough fundraiser will be directed to purchases at this meeting.
If you would like to voice your vote, please join us.

Following the meeting we will be hosting a Parent Engagement session on Cyber Wellness.  Show up or register by emailing westroyaltyhs@gmail.com or by calling the school at (902) 368-6790


Home and School Executive Committee Nominations

Each spring we encourage West Royalty parents to come forward and consider participating as a member of the Home and School Executive Committee for the upcoming school year.

There are vacant positions as a lead or co executive member for all positions including President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Nominations for Executive positions are currently being accepted and are due April by 30th. You can nominate yourself or another parent in the school by emailing westroyaltyhs@gmail.com.

Anyone who is interested in one of the positions or has any questions about getting involved in the Home and School Committee in any capacity is encouraged to attend the bimonthly meeting on Tuesday April 10th, 2018 at 6:00pm.

PEI Home and School Federation's 65th Annual General Meeting

Registration is open for the PEI Home and School Federation's 65th Annual General Meeting, April 14, 2018.

Any parent, guardian, teacher, administrator or staff member of a PEIHSF school is invited to the meeting with each member school appointing five (5) individuals to attend as voting delegates. Call for more details at 902-620-3186 or 1-800-916-0664.

PEI School Crossing Guard and Bus Driver Awards

 Get your nominations in for your favorite School Crossing Guard and Bus Drivers for these annual awards!

School Crossing Guard of the Year Award: This award recognizes a school crossing guard on Prince Edward Island for their service in keeping our walking students safe. Nominations deadline:April 27th.  Details are online at: http://peihsf.ca/awards

Caribou Math Contest in April Results

We are again pleased with the results of 5th Caribou Contests. Our students are excelling and having great results.  Each student should be proud of their individual improvements.

The PEI Home & School Federation's 65th Annual General Meeting  and Convention is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the  Rodd Charlottetown Hotel,  75 Kent Street.   This all day event will begin at 8am.  The deadline to register is March 28th, 2018.  All are welcome to attend.

West Royalty School and the Home and School Committee are excited to host our next Parent Engagement session. The topic is Cyber Wellness and the impact of technology, especially Social Media on Mental Health. Presented by Tayte Willows from the Canadian Mental Health Association.

This presentation will touch on subject matter such as, what is social media?  What are the benefits and challenges of the internet?  The effect of the Internet on our mental health and also coping strategies for the Internet as a parent. 

Please note that the intended audience for this talk are parents.  It is not recommended that children attend. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, March 13th and begin at 7:00pm following the Home and School meeting which will begin at 6:00pm.

Cupcake Sale

The students and parents of last years KA class are putting on a cupcake sale on Wednesday, March 14th.  the cupcakes will be $1.00 each with the  proceeds going to support our KA teacher,  Mrs. LeClair and her family while she is off work helping her husband in his battle with Lymphoma.

Be Seen in Green Day for St. Patrick’s Day will take place on Friday, March 16th.

Pink Shirt Day, Science Fair, Math Club, Cookie Dough Fundraiser

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt day will take place on Wednesday, February 28. This is an annual world wide event where people across the country and around the globe will take the opportunity to wear pink as a symbol against bullying in our schools, communities and workplaces.  

Science Fair

The Science Fair is scheduled to take place this Wednesday February 28th (Storm Date Thursday, March 1).

 Participants will begin setup at 8:30 AM.  Parents can view at 11:00 AM

The location is yet to be determined.  Likely the multipurpose room and/or library.

Math Club

Just a reminder to participants that there will be no Math Club this week.


Cookie Dough Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who supported our Cookie Dough fundraiser!  We are waiting for final figures but we happy to announce we raised close to $4800 to support purchasing new gym equipment and teacher requests. 

Cookie Dough PICK UP will be held March 14th between 230-530.  Please mark this on your calendar as the school does not have a refrigerator to store orders.

We are looking for a few volunteers to organize the delivery and pick up starting at 1pm.  If you can help, please email westroyaltyhs@gmail.com.

Prizes were delivered to students on Wednesday!


For those who have a late order, online sales will remain open until Monday.  Simply go to QSP.ca, enter our school name or code 3730223, and shop!

PRIZES WILL STILL BE EARNED.  Ice cream party will be announced later next week for those who sold 5 tubs.

Cookie Dough Campaign Deadlines, Staff Appreciation, March H&S Meeting and Parent Engagement Session

The Cookie Dough campaign closes tomorrow,  Tuesday February 20th. 

To guarantee our delivery date, orders will not be accepted at the school after Tuesday at 4pm. However, the online store at qsp.ca will remain open until Monday February 26th for late orders to be submitted.   

All profits raised from this fundraiser are supporting new gym equipment and teacher classroom needs.  

Staff Appreciation

West Royalty Home and School would like to say a special thank you to all parent volunteers that donated snacks and door prizes this week. 

A gift was given to every teacher at either the staff luncheon or during staff week!

Parent Information Meetings for the Late French Immersion Program

Late French Immersion parent information meetings will be held at the following locations for parents of Grade 6 students who plan to enroll their children in Grade 7 Late French Immersion in September, 2018:
Below are the dates and storm dates for each of the schools hosting a parent information meeting for the Late French Immersion program.

Staff Appreciation

The staff appreciation luncheon is being held Jan 31 (PD day) at noon.  Each year we provide lunch and fun during the luncheon! We need: 

1) Door prize donations for fun rewards for staff and teachers.  Donations can be  as simple as $10 Tim’s card, Indigo card, epicure, home made items, chocolates, any thing at all!   

2) Food donations.  There are a few spots needing to be filled.  All donations are fantastic and greatly appreciated! 

3) Volunteers for clean up are needed.

Home and School Bi-Monthly Meeting and Parent Engagement 

The January Home and School Meeting is this week.  It is scheduled for 6:00 pm on Tuesday the 16th at West Royalty School. The Parent Engagement session on Numeracy will be presented immediately following the meeting.

The session will be presented by Bev Coles, Elementary Math Coach. The focus of her presentation will be The Importance of Multiplication and is especially relevant for grades four to six.  All are welcome.
