New Kindergarten / Grade 1 Playground

On behalf of the West Royalty Home & School Association we would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to all parents, students, and local businesses that supported our fundraising initiative last year to purchase new playground equipment for our Kindergarten and Grade 1 children.

We are extremely pleased to announce that the new playground equipment has been purchased, and the City of Charlottetown will be installing it next week!

To help us celebrate the grand opening of this new space, we are inviting all the donors who made a donation to join us at the new playground on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 1:50 pm to take an official picture with all the children in Kindergarten and Grade 1.  You will be receiving a special invitation through the mail early next week.

Once again, thank you to everyone who supported our initiative. We look forward to meeting you in the coming week!

Education Governance Commission

October 27, 2011

Attention      Home and School Presidents / Co-Chairs / Members

Subject:        Education Governance Commission

The Prince Edward Island Education Governance Commission released the Education Governance Discussion Paper, Charting the Way, at 9:00 this morning. It is available online at www.peieducationgovernance.com

This is our opportunity as parents, guardians, educators and members of the community to provide input to the Commission about Education Governance in P.E.I. both the current model and what it should look like in the future.

The Commission has made it very easy to provide input. You may send feedback in a variety of ways (i.e. mail, e-mail, public meetings). The website is easy to navigate. Check the "Have your say" page for all the details.

We encourage all Home and School members to hold a conversation on this topic and submit comments to the Commission, collectively and/or individually. To get you started, here are some tips:

- Put this topic on your next Home & School meeting's agenda for discussion
- Forward the Commission's link to your membership so they will be prepared to discuss
- Ask your school secretary to include the information in the school's newsletter
- Record comments on a flipchart at your Home & School meeting; compile info into a letter to the Commission
- Send representatives to the public meetings to learn more from other community members
- Individual comments are welcomed
- Print copies are available - call 620-3457

Home and Schools on Twitter may want to "follow" the @peihsf account, and send us your local's Twitter account name so that we can follow the Home and School conversation.  We have linked the Commission's website on our Home Page at:   http://www.edu.pe.ca/peihsf/

Please send a copy of your comments to the provinical Home and School office at: peihsf@edu.pe.ca
Fax: 620-3187 or mail to: PEIHSF Box 1012 Charlottetown, PEI C1A 7M4.

Thank you.

See you at the Halloween Dance!

The Halloween Dance is just around the corner...

We are looking for entrants for our pumpkin carving contest. Bring your carved pumpkins on Friday evening to the dance. Pumpkins will be on display during the dance and a winner will be decided before the night's over.

EVERYONE should dress in their coolest costumes ever - kids and parents too! We will be handing out a prize for best costume.

Decorating will take place on Friday afternoon, so if anyone wants to drop over to lend a hand that would be great. All of our volunteers are in place and our music for the dance will be put on by Lisa and Kent Cox again this year. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help make this a fun evening.

As a special treat, a bag of chips and a juice box will be handed out to all kids attending the dance. We are still looking for more donations so please drop them off at the school before Friday.

Tickets can be purchased through the school at $2.00 per person. There will be NO tickets sold at the door so get yours TODAY!

We hope to see everyone there on Friday, October 28th, from 6:30-8:00 pm!
