September 29th Update

What a WONDERFUL morning for Walking School Bus!  It was great to see so many enthusiastic children and parents walking to the school this morning. Thanks to Wendy Miller for organizing this successful event! Did you know that if just 9 families participate regularly in a Walking School Bus over the course of a school year, they can collectively prevent almost 1000 kg of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere? International Walk to School Month is OCTOBER...more information can be found at: http://www.iwalktoschool.org/. We’d love to hear from parents about the possibility of having groups of students walk to school together on a more regular basis. There are schools in Canada that have completely eliminated their school busses… WOW!
All magazine orders should be at the school TODAY.  This is our major annual fundraising event, and we value your efforts to support the school.
Today is Raise-a-Reader Day! Twenty-seven newspapers across the country, including The Guardian, support the campaign. Since its inception in 2002, this campaign has raised more than $15 million dollars.  All funds raised remain in the local community. Please support this valuable campaign!
The Healthy Snack Program kicks off next week. This program ensures that every child receives a healthy snack monthly.  As the committee is dedicated to supporting local farmers, the first snack will see the children chomping on our amazing harvest of apples!
The Halloween Dance is scheduled for October 29th. Cheryl Jabbour is heading up this FUN family event. Stay tuned for details as they become available.
Please mark your calendar for our first Home and School Meeting on October 12 at 6:30 in the staff lounge at the school. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Cheers,
Denise Bulger, President
